I would like to try and paint my car myself but with the original factory color gold.

I have heard stories of gold and silver are one of the hardest paints to use. Is this story true? I will be using a HVLP gun for a base coat/clearcoat paint.

silvers and golds aren't all that difficult to spray in basecoat clearcoat form. Just make absolutely sure your surface texture is very smooth and uniform. Any sandscratches or other imperfections will be highlighted when the paint is applied.
