I have a 66 chevelle with a 307 and PG. For a while now ive been having problems with starting it. Most of the time it starts up fine but probably once every 4 or 5 times it wont even turn over. Whenever it doesnt start, if i wait a little while and try again it starts up just fine. The battery is about a year old and so is the allternator and the starter. The engine has been running fine and ive had no other problems with her. All of the other electrical components work fine when i have this problem it just wont turn over. This is my daily driver and usually it starts the first time i try to during the day but today was the first time it hasnt. Can this problem be the coil? Thanks for your help.

It's not the coil because your engine isn't even spinning. What do the battery cables look like? Nice, clean, and tight? Or worn out and covered with that white poop?
How about the negative cable connection to the block? Clean and tight?

the positive cable is brand new and the negative cable looks pretty good too, both are tight

Have a good meter or do you need another method to check things out?

Well, everything sounds like it's new and in good working order. Since this problem is real intermittent I'd think I would try something like this.
Pick up about a 6 foot piece of wire around #14 gage and crimp an eyelet lug on one end. Screw the eyelet lug on the "S" terminal of the solenoid along with the purple wire. Dress out the wire so it comes up by the battery. Strip off a little insulation off the other end of the wire and then protect that end with something like a wire nut.
The next time it acts up, measure that wire to ground as someone turns the key. See if the voltage stays above 10 volts letting you know the ignition switch and wiring is OK.
Then touch that wire to the battery. See if that gets the starter to spin.
Between these two things have a good chance of narrowing down the problem.
