Hypothetical question (sp??)
If a new paint job was color sanded but not done quite right, lets say lots of swirls or streaks or whatever other problems might arise (not including a disaster like burning through)
Can this be corrected with the right procedure or redoing some part of the process again?
Reason I am asking is I am having a little trouble right now finding someone to do it. I would like to try it myself but am just a bit nervous of screwing up all this. The paint is a very dark blue, base clear. This is all I have left to do, and then put all the trim back on. I am probably a little too impatient but after 6 months of working on this steady I want it done

Thanks

Jerry

Ive found that the best buffing pads are the foam pads. Wool to me now seems that they are more prone to swirls and fine scratches. We use 3M foam pads dont have the numbers right off hand but can provdie them later on tomm. Now depending on how fine of swirls you got you can remove them by using a what Ill call a polisher, not a buffer. This thing that we use is like a 5in dia DA sander and has a very short throw roughly like 3/32 on an inch, made by national detroit. It too use a foam pad. For buffing we use 3M products but with this polisher thing we use Meguairs. Cant recall the product numbers we use but can get them later.

Once done with that thing then follow up with a hand rubbing of liquid glass wax. That stuff is the best out there in my book. Do the hadn rubbing with a 3M detailers cloth rag. Also when you are done with the da polisher wipe the film off with the detail cloth but use a different rag then from the one you use to wax.

If that doesnt remove the swirls what Ive done is go back to the buffing stage. I use two different pads for buffing, white for compounding, black for polishing. I use 3M machine glaze with the black pad. BUff with that pad and polish til the deep swirls start to go away then come back and repeat with the da polisher...Eric

I used to get those swirl marks after polishing, then I talked a guy at the Meguiers truck at a super Chevy show. Now after the polishing compound (I dont use rubbing compound at all) I use number 83 Meguiers with a foam pad at low speed, the 3M glazing compound. It's like magic, the paint looks like new glass.
