All,

I am having some issues regarding my roof rail weatherstrip. There is a "J" hook that helps keep the weatherstrip in place near where the door window(towards the rear edge) seals at. On my Malibu this "J" hook just bulges the Metro weatherstrip outwards. It seems that if the weatherstrip is too big to fit inside of this "j" hook. If anyone could send me a pic of this area so that I can compare what it is actually supposed to look/sit like, I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

So has anybody had this issue on their Chevelle or just me? That hook really scrunches up the weatherstrip to make it look like crap and fit even worse.

when i did mine on my 71 i used the soft seal weather stripping, fit really nice.

what i did was, i used a little bit of black RTV weatherstrip adheasive, and a body filler speader. you could also use a putty knife, with a bunch of tape on the end so it doesnt rip the weather stripping. you have to force the weather stripping into the groove the whole way down. and then just take the excess in the rear where the sail panel is, and tuck it inside their.

i think i know the hook you are describing. i had bent mine to fit around the stripping, and pushed it back.

hope this helped.

Only reason I went with Metro was because I had a bad experience with Soff Seal on my 83 Monte SS.

Agreed on the installation part, The weatherstrip sits really nice from the front all the way through to the back and like you suggested, I cut off the excess at the rear.

yes, that is the hook I am talking about. If it weren't for it, the weatherstrip would be perfect. Its just that hook that is scrunching up my weatherstrip in that one location. I will try to bend it around the weather strip as you did. Do your windows hit the hook with your setup? Thanks again.
