: Is there a replacement for the original nuts?

I am just starting to put my 68 Chevelle back together and I was wondering if there is a replacement for the "nuts" that hold the dash pad, heater box assembly and other various parts together? They are a hollow thin looking nut that looks fairly cheap. Several are missing and they cost $.95 to replace in the Ground-Up catalog.

I am not worried about "correctness". The bolt stems that they go on look like they have uncommon threads and I dont want to strip one trying to retro-fit some other type of nut on them. Any help would be appreciated....Scott

I think they call thme speed nuts? and I got some from a local bolt and nut shop for pennies a piece. Or maybe try a automotive paint supply store they usually have racks of misc. fasteners.

Take a look at http://www.palnut.com/push8.htm for pushnuts and here: http://www.palnut.com/self.htm for self-threading nuts.

Scott, I bought mine from the local Chevrolet dealer, they had to order them, but that only took three days.

Great, there are some other options. If I can get them for pennies apiece...that is that much more I can put into the rat. Thanks for the help.
