: it leaks
Dhalilama May 20th, 00, 4:04 PM and I haven't been able to stop it yet. The worst is the water infiltrating my trunk right under the back glass. I know when it comes time to replace the vinyl top I'll be able to repair and seal it all up, however, I was planning on doing all the body sblasting at the same time and then painting. I'd like to do a temporary fix so I can finish everything else and do the body work last. I guess what I really need is a sealer that I can apply in between glass and trim that will remove without damage to either. Does this exist or is there another solution?

The only thing you can do temporary is pump in some silicone , or some urethane, but the holes where the glass goes will still be there getting worse as time goes on. Fixing those window channels is no fun. Real common on vinyl top cars, fix it right, do it once.

ToocoolZ28 May 21st, 00, 6:33 PM Remove the window trim, then you will be able to see the holes and fill them with silicone. If you put the sealer between the trim and the glass the water will just find another way to get in.

Dhalilama May 22nd, 00, 7:58 AM Alright, guess i'll just have to deal with a wet trunk till I'm ready for body work. thanks
ledsled May 22nd, 00, 11:08 AM I'm doing the same thing on my 1969 Impala right now. The body filler doesn't have to be perfect, since the original metal is quite wavy also. I used short-strand fiberglass body filler, sanded it with the 3M 2" discs on my drill, hand sanded to get the marks out, then primed and painted it. There's pics at
It's at the glass shop today, but when it gets back I'll take a finished picture and post it on the site.

Cool car ledsled. I like Impala's. BTW, I have a beautiful front grill if your in need.

out (same rust all around) with no glass, front or
back. What a breeze that made, with nice rust
particles flying all around in my eyes!" LOL! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif (This cracked me up for some reason)
