my new 67 396/325 SS 4speed has a Edelbrock C396 manifold with a 3 barrel 950 Holley dating back around 1968. I haven't driven car yet, but seems a bit much too me. any thoughts?

No, a 396 is just a good start.

Might have to dump that carb, though. Interesting concept, but I don't think they ever worked right.

The stock 325 horse cam is...ummm...pathetic.

I'd be looking for a complete cam kit, along with a different carb. Worry about the intake when it's convenient.
