Well after figuring out that i won't pay someone 5g's to paint some flames on my car i have decided that i want to do this myself. I have painted many things, including my dash and lots of other pieces. I have already started pounding out the random BIG dents throughout the car and got them pretty close, will just need to put some bondo to smooth it out. I am wondering what kind of paint sprayer i should use. I DO NOT have an air compressor, but if need be i will get one for this job, wanted one anyway. I found a site that will sell stencils for flames that i can lay on the car. So i got that part down.

Any techniques i should know of? Painting a car is a big object and can make it a bit difficult to paint when it is such a big object.

THANKS!!

Also any paints that people have liked more than others?? I already have my color scheme picked out just want to know if some paints are better than others.

You might want to check out your local votec school. You can take night classes and learn all you need to know about painting. There are usually a few of the day students aroung and they love doing flames. I had one show me how he did them just last week.It seems like the young boys don"t think they can paint until they do a flame job. If you don"t have a school I am sure you could do it yourself, it is very easy. I have seen sites on the web that go thru the steps .Use the plastic 1/4" masking tape to get clean lines and a good brand paint. You might want to practice on an old fender or piece of medal first. If you take your time you will get a good job without paying someone else.If you use a cheap gun and get orange peal it can be sanded out and buffed and will still look good.Just be sure to check with the local paint store and get the right paint , thinner, and activators for the product you chose. Those guys know what the body shop guys buy for the jobs they do so they can tell you what you need. Good luck.

I use an old model 7 Binks and have used Dupont, Ditzler, and PPG paint and can not tell any difference as far as painting with them. With all the new type guns out today I would say you could get an older gun like my model 7 very cheap.

I have a 71 chevelle convertible. I have been in the process of restoring it for about a year now. I have had all new qtrs , new front sheetmetal, new trunk lid and a totally new interior. It has been totally rust ridden and has a great paint job. It ia a medium blue with a black convertible top. The interior is also back. I want to try and make it into an SS clone.
I have a none functional SS hood alredy installed and have ordered all of the SS Badges.
The only thing I have left are the SS strippes.
I am not sure wht color they should be < White or Black? Did 71 SS convertibles have Black or white strippes? I have heard a couple of diffrent opinionsand thought I would investigate it for myself. I thought if I wnet black it might be too much but on the other hand there id no white on the car. Help me solve my problem PLEASE!!!!!!!
Thanks
