My combo for the most part is in my sig. Now, I have not really set my timing with a light yet because we didn't have a good way to do it, so that is going to happen this weekend when I get the timing tape. I'm trying to not get on the gas much because I'm aware that it's not all tuned properly right now...but 'tis hard to resist...
Tonight, it was about 50 degrees, and the car was cold. I have a manual choke and have not converted to electric yet, so I figure the best thing I can do (since daytime temperatures are great) is leave it open. I started the car, it had been sitting for about 5 or 6 hours. I was driving it and I think I was in about 2nd gear and I pushed the pedal to the floor. It kind of stumbled and then I heard a pop like through the carb and it picked up. This was within a two minutes of the engine being started. I was wondering if maybe that little stumble was maybe because the choke was wide open on a cool night with an engine that wasn't warmed up?
Also, don't know if this is related or not...during the day when it was about 70 or so out I was in 2nd and I floored it...the tach went to 3500 but I am not good enough at shifting yet and I wasn't anywhere where I should really be going fast. But, the power was incredible and the front end started to lift up, but as I was around 3000 or 3500 it started to feel like it wanted to stumbled a bit or shake, kind of like when a car shakes when you don't hit the clutch just right. Was that maybe a tuning problem, or was it maybe acting that way because of the RPMs I was at at a fairly low MPH with the 4.11 gears? Because I don't really know how the car is supposed to act yet since the car previously was so different.
I intend this weekend to set the timing and reset the valves warm. To be honest the valves were only set cold because I had to hurry to get to school. My dad thought it would be okay and basically said setting the lash warm was just to 'make sure things were still right'. Anyway, other than that, the car performs very well (except for some dieseling sometimes...which makes me think this all could be timing). Nothing is bent or broken, the cam is not going south, etc.
Just curious what you all thought. I am hoping to fine tune more this weekend but was still wondering...thanks.
