The more I dive into my project, the more discouraged I get. Ive already got 4500.00 in my 69 malibu convertible project including price of the car and the body is on blocks not touched yet. this car came from chicago so you can imagine the rust.Im really getting discouraged at the rust more than anything else. I knew when I bought it, it needed a whole new trunk floor and floor pans, but after it was taken off the frame I found much more cancer. Ive got questions about some sections, maybe some of you guys have fixed these areas?? one is the section where the bumper and tag mount this section is eat up pretty bad and I assume these are not reproduced. also looking at what I call the inside of the quarter panels (back section), the sections directly on either side of the gas tank under the trunk floor are eat up pretty bad.any ideas on this. I would hate to scrap this project at this point, because Ive pictured myself cruising with the top down summer days too many times to let go easily, beside I dont think it was but about 8443 of these cars produced in 69.seems a shame to scrap it even one needing this much work.any ideas on what I can do about these sections???Ive thought about trying to find a parts car to just cut these sections out but that would probably cost me an easy 1500 for a parts car????

Send me some pics of the areas you need metal, I just gutted a 69 convertible. The body shell is junk, lots of rust and bad repair work, but maybe you will get lucky and I can cut something out for you. I have the shell up on a trailer now, so its easy enough to see what sections are ok. I also bought this one in the hopes of finishing the resto someone else started, but not only did the shell need work but most of the repair work done was bad, and would of had to be redone. I bailed before it turned into a money pit.

I've lived near Chicago all my life, so you bet I can imagine the rust!! Don't let your heart overrule your head on this, Michael. You can bet it will only get worse the farther you go. Been there, done that, got the empty bank account to show for it. Just because these cars are not growing on trees doesn't mean there are none around. You need to sit down and plan out what you want to do with this car, and make your best guess at how much you think it will cost to get to that point. Then, double or triple your estimate, and you'll have a realistic figure. If that's not where you want to be, then start looking for ways to bail out.
