I have a question about my new 68 Camaro's winshield trim.

The car was painted several years ago and it seems when the trim pieces were put back on, they did not fit correctly. There are a few gaps, or crevases between the chrome trim and the body.

Places for water to enter!

I am not a body shop person and was wondering if I could fill these spots with some silicon or something?

I have some pics I can email, not sure how to post pics here.

You wouldn't be the first person. However I would take the windshield out and get the correct amount ie.. thickness of sealant put in. About $50 at a glass shop. Call around they very in prices. That is most likley the reason they don't fit not enough sealant under the window.

The chrome trim on the front and back glasses are eye candy only and have no effect on sealing the glass. If you have a water leak, the fit of the trim isn't related to that.

If there are gaps between the trim and the body, the trim is either bent or the retaining clips are distorted. Simply remove the trim and replace the retaining clips as necessary. While you have the trim off, you can seal any leaks around the glass.

If the glass was previously replaced and the wrong thickness of sealant was used, that presents a whole 'nuther situation; however, in that case, the gaps generally would be between the trim and the glass rather than between the trim and the body.
