Customizing a Chevelle and wanted to install a dimming dome light. My wife wont allow me to dismantle her new car to find out how it works. Does anyone know if this type of dimming uses some sort of special relay?

Centech wiring at www.centechwire.com (http://www.centechwire.com) sells a dimmer box. About $20.00

In the business, this is called "Theater Dimming". Design is beyond home brew unless you're an electrical engineer. The ones I have worked on use a small microprocessor to PWM a FET or transistor.

I have yet to test these.

Here's one for $40 under dome light dimming

here's a schematic

I am also looking into how GM does it. Maybe I'll get lucky and it wont be INSIDE the BCM.

TAD out

The headlight switch has a built in dimmer for the dash lights. Depending on how you want to control the dome light , a headlight switch may have some possibilities. It also has a on/off feature too.
