: Getting creative with ChromaLusion
Rob F Jun 4th, 01, 6:17 PM In an older post about flames, Doing ghost flames with ChromaLusion was mentioned. MARTINSR mentioned using only a couple ounces mixed with clear to give a light, ghost effect. That got me thinking, what if you were to mix @3oz of Chromalusion with @3qts of paint, and paint your whole car with it? Would you get a ghost ChromaLusion paint job? Would this even work, or ruin a lot of $$$ worth of paint? I have some bluish/purple Chromalusion and 2000 Audi/VW metallic silver for the base color. I was planning on doing some scallops or flames with it, but I think up strange things sometimes. Has anybody played with this stuff yet?

red2rider Jun 4th, 01, 6:58 PM You could do that but I would make damn sure you fog it on to get it nice and even. Plus the fogging helps the metallics stand up and make people take notice. I do all my metallic paints this way.
I saw a new z-28 with krome illusion and black SS stripes. It looked awesome, but I don't think it would have looked right on a chevelle.
Rob F Jun 4th, 01, 7:24 PM Yeah, you're right, I don't think it would look right to paint the whole car like that, and I wasn't planning on it, but I am going to do flames or something on the front. I was just wondering what the effect would be if you did do that. This stuff is too expensive for me to play with, 3oz cost me $71.00. I was hoping someone who paints and does this kind of stuff for a living might have had a chance to experiment with it, and would have some ideas on trick stuff you could do with it.

MARTINSR Jun 4th, 01, 9:06 PM If you mixed it with the paint it would loose all the flop effect. What you would want to do is to paint the color you have, then mix the Chromaillusion with the 150 base coat mixing clear and reduce as normal. If you were to look up a factory "mid" coat color formula you would see the same thing but with a dry or wet pearl in it. It is not that hard to paint evenly, just test it with the 150 and a pearl, then after you get the hang of it switch to the Chromaillusion. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

normie Jun 5th, 01, 8:19 AM House of color has Pearls of varying color and flop for a lot less money.. I think they are 16-20 bucks for a 2-4 oz jar of dry pearl.. Mixing the chromalusion with clear is the way you want too do it if your going too.. Good Luck and we expect photos http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif

Rob F Jun 5th, 01, 6:58 PM MARTINSR, thanks for the advice, I will do it the way you suggested. But I can't decide on flames, scallops, or something similar. I'm sure I'll be needing more of your help in the future.
And yes normie, I will post some pics, but it's going to be a while. The car is only in etch primer now while I'm fixing pevious shoddy bodywork. I am doing it all myself, and this is my first time doing serious bodywork, and only my second time painting an entire car.
