Soon to start new project. This will be a pump gas motor i'm shooting for 10.5 comp. Need to pick cam, heads, intake, carb. So far I like the afr 325,or 335.Any other suggestions?the block is 9.8 deck and I would like to have headers that bolt on a 69 malibu. Once I get heads figured out i'll move to cam, intake, carb. Thanx.

10.5 says pump gas monster, so go for the better street heads - 325's. Don't think a Victor Jr. is good enough, 454R would probably work along with a 1050 Dominator. 540HOTROD Jim has some nice tricks to make a Dom more streetable - email him and I'm sure he'd be happy to share. He has no secrets that I know of, very open about his combo and more than willing to help with any advice/experiences that you ask for. My block is 4.600 so that same combo yields 565 cubes and these are the intake and carb that I'll go with. Cam is still up in the air but I'm leaning hard toward a street solid roller for the revability and tunability. Notched frame rails and mini tubs plus a 9" on mine, or so is the plan. Good luck on yours!

Mine's a 10.5 motor...using a Super Victor intake and King Demon RS 995 carb. Great street manners!
Hooker Super Comps, 2 1/8" primary...fit is very good.
Recently installed a set of AFR 335 heads and a custom ground Comp solid roller. Dyno specs in signature was with last year's stock Dart Pro I 325 heads and a slightly smaller Lunati/UDHarold grind.
Contact Wolfplace (Mike Lewis) for a great deal on AFR heads...

Dart block, AFR 335, 12.5 to 1, Edelbrock Super Victor CNC intake with 1 inch spacer, comp solid roller,.714/.715 270/275 @ .050 112 ls, the rest of valvetrain is Isky. 1050 Quickfuel carb. Eagle rotating assembly. Dynoed 830 + hp . Drive it mostly on the street. Very streetable. With 10.5 to 1 you maybe want a little less duration on the cam. If I were you I would definitely get the AFR heads. Mike Lewis would be a good choice too. Post you results when done.
good luck!!

The 335's are worth the $$'s if you can. A friend has them on his 548 with a custom Comp solid roller, (260's@.050, 112 LSA right at .700 lift) 11.2 compression Victor Jr intake with a 1020 cfm 4150, 2-1/8" headers. He recently chassis dyno'd it and made 672 RWHP on the Dynojet in pure street trim. No carb spacers, belt driven water pump, fan, mufflers etc etc.

My 540 uses Brodix 2xtra's. Out of the box they made 732 hp@6200 rpm with 10.5 compression, 262/273 on a 112 LSA .672/.675 cam, Old short Team G intake, no spacer 1050 Dominator, belt driven water pump. It made 615 RWHP in the car.

After a couple of years we ported heads fully, milled for 11.06 compression, added a 272/278 110 LSA .731/.731 cam along with a cleaned up Super Victor. It made 825 hp@ 7400 rpm. Definitely a RPM queen! It was still climbing, I just chickened out on keeping on beating on it.

I've since dropped to a 266/272 on a 112 LSA cam. I haven't dyno'd it yet, but it really likes it and gets the car down the track better. It picked up 7 mph in the 1/4 mile!

Don't fall for using "too small" parts....you have lots of cubes....they need to be fed!

While the 540 is a nice size, if i had it to do over again, i think i'd bore it out farther, (more inches, more power). It's no harder to have it bored to 4.560 and arrive at 555" or destroke it to 4" for a little more traction. It's pretty easy to get near or surpass 800 H.P. at this size.
