Hello,

Right now I have the car jacked up and I am
removing the crud under the car. I am doing it mostly with a paint scraper and a wire brush. It definately isn't the most fun thing in the world. Just wondering what alternatives to POR-15 are there for painting. Some of the things I am considering are
-Ashphalt undercoating
-Basic rust paint (with a rust fighting primer)
-Rockerguard

Anybody use any of these? The basic goal is to have something that won't rust a lot and will look half decent.

Thanks for any suggestions,

One idea might be to use some of that spray on bed liner. The stuff is very hard and stracth resist. You can either spray it on or brush it on depending on what brand you get. Duplicolor makes a kit that can be sprayed or brushed on and was fairly cheap. After you have got the metal cleaned and free of crud apply a coat of etching primer and then expoy primer, then go to town with the bed liner.

That is a really good suggestion. I have seen people using bedliner for a replacement for a vinyl roof. It was white and unless you looked closely you couldn't tell the difference.

The rockerguard is kinda along the same lines its chip resistant and I have the gun to shoot it. I also saw a brush on bedliner definately something to think about.

Thanks,

I used Corroless rust killer on any rust spots then the duplicolor bed liner. Sprayed it on both sides of the floor board. Looks good. Havent finished the vehicle yet, but i'm hoping it might take a little of the road noise away as well.

I haven't used it so I won't vouch for any of its presumed qualities but I did see a display of this stuff at the Super Chevy show in Pomona. It is a "roll on" bedliner kit. The dried samples they had looked to be very comparible to expensive spray on liners. I personally love the por-15 stuff but to each their own. Here is the website. I would bet a few people on this site have experience using it.
