I just went down and picked up my 454 from the machine shop today. It's bored to 468, GMPP alum heads, 12.2:1 compression, Manley 2.19/1.88 11/32 Pro valves, Crane Gold roller rockers, SRP forged pistons, Eagle ESP rods, GM forged crank, Lunati 259/267 @ .050, .625/.625, 110 LSA solid flat tappet. He felt very confident I'll see 650 HP - 675 HP, but the track will tell.

I'll post up a couple of picks as soon as I get it on the engine stand. :)

Oh, for those who don't know...It's going in a '78 Malibu, stripped out, 12 point roll cage, Ford 9" rear, and will weigh right around 3400 pounds. Should be a hand full. Pic of the car's in the sig.

Nice, another guy doing a BBC buildup :beers:
Who did the assembly? Your machinist? It looks like it is done already, you guys are kicking my butt.

Had it done at a machinist shop. Last time I built a motor it threw a rod through the oilpan an hour after startup. :clonk:

Next motor I do I'll give it a shot again.

Oh, and for those of you who noticed, I am not the one who put the bowls on the 950HP on backwards. :)

Moving right along! Looks good, Sean. When is the maiden voyage?

Another Big Block, Looks Good! I know you got more money than I do. That motor cost more than the decals on my hood.

hey man looks great. Did you use rectangle or oval port heads? Im in the middle of gathering all my parts and finding out exactly what machine work i want to have done do you think those heads would do good on a 496?

Drive it like you stole it and hang on thats the fun of a big block

Hope your machinist didn't do it either, because if so, I'd be worried what else he put on "backwards"

Other than that though... Beautiful motor!

Momma mia....looks like an animal! If you don't mind me asking, about how much was the machine shop cost?

Thanks. April '06 for the beginning of race season (hopefully) it'll be done. Depends on if I can come up with another $3000 by then.

Believe it or not it wasn't that much.

$400 Block, oil pan, roller rockers.
$800 GMPP heads.
$450 SRP pistons.
$400 GM forged crank standard/standard (machine work already done).
$450 Eagle ESP rods.
free already had the intake.
$650 all the rest of the parts.
$800 Machine shop labor.

There you go. Just under $4000 for a motor. I went to the 'Mr. four speed' school of auto building. Cheap, but works good! :)

Hope your machinist didn't do it either, because if so, I'd be worried what else he put on "backwards"

No it wasn't them. If you remember back last summer, Russ, I had stripped out one of the threaded bolt holes on the main body on my 950HP. I bought a helicoil kit from Holley, attempted to tap the hole myself, and promptly made it worse. A buddy of mine who's really good with Holley's was able to fix my error and save the main body. His wife was bitching at he and I that dinner was ready, so he slapped the bowls on and threaded the bolts on, but didn't tighten them down. That's how it's sat since last summer. :)

Should run well into 10's with that much hp! Course your suspension will have to be up to par to handle the power! Goodluck!

Thanks, Bob. I'd be happy with low elevens. I've got a pretty good suspension set up used by others like Todd Geisler, to push their cars into the tens. We'll see!

Looks awesome Sean. I can save you the heartache when it only puts out 649hp by putting it in my car,:p you can HAVE my 355.
