I have a 66 Chevelle
There is quite a bit of flex in the roof before it contacts that braces (1/2 TO 3/4 inch). How much is normal? What can be done to correct?
Thanks for any help

It sounds like the adhesive has let go, usually these braces have some adhesive that makes contact with the roof. I've also seen some older models with just a sound deadening type pad between the brace and the roof skin, not exactly sure what a 66 Chevelle uses. Many times the skin has been pushed down by weight on the roof then when the skin springs back up the brace stays in the down position and doesn't return upward with the roof skin. You can usually work the braces back up by carefully hammering them upward starting from the outer ends with a deadblow hammer or similar. Be carefull when working the center areas of the brace because more often than not it will come up and impact the skin making a contact mark visible on the outside. I would apply some new adhesive to the brace and skin if needed.

Thanks for the help, I will give that a try first
If there is still flex would it be out of the question to weld a rod on the under side of the roof? I will be doing body work and paint later
Thanks
