View Full Version : 2 inch drop spindles

I rebuilt my front suspension on a 67 chevelle. This is what I used:

2 inch drop spindles
Hotchkis springs (1 inch drop)
offset upper shafts

When I had it aligned, they had to use a ton of shims. Is this normal? Do I need a taller spring in there?

I have tire rub with two people in the car on the outer tire from the inner fender. Tires are 235 60 15. What do I need to do to correct this?

Thanks

Which direction are your offset shafts facing? Might turning them around the opposite way (rotate them 180 degrees in the arm) eliminate the need for so many shims?

Wheels with more backspacing will correct it. A 235 is not a large tire.

My shafts are stamped on one side, "engine side" so this is the side I have facing the engine. Is it everyones idea that drop spindles are good for chevelles?

Who makes a five spoke wheel with 4.5 backspacing? I wanted to use some good old Cragers, but they only have 4 and 1/8 or 4 and 1/4 inches of backspacing.

Thanks
