: Has anyone done a full floor transplant?

My '67 Chevelle convertible has had some floor pans replaced and isn't very good under the rear seat. In addition, someone butchered the 4 speed shifter location in the tunnel, probably to install an after market shifter. It's not urgent, but a floor that looks near perfect from underneath would be nice.

One of my parts cars, a '67 Skylark 2 door hardtop, has a nearly perfect original floor. Except for a couple of very small holes in the middle of the driver's side floor pan, it looks very solid from firewall to trunk and from rocker to rocker. It is an automatic with no holes cut in the tunnel.

Has anyone here replaced the entire floor, from about the bottom of the firewall to behind the back seat in one piece, including the floor braces? Does this work well? What is there to watch for?

And I'm wondering about what changes would have to take place to the tunnel to accommodate the four speed. I'd like it to look correct.

Thanks for your advice!

The only way you can do it in one piece is to re move engine, trans, doors and turn that puppy on its side, install it from the underneath side.

Did full floors on a Mustang Convertible. Did it in halves though, driver side, then passenger. Welded on both sides and finished off welds. Key is to get the chassis (if on frame) or body stabilized. Need to support the body at all body mount points to stabilize. You will be surprized at how much movement you can get in a body with no frame and no floor pans.

Install is somewhat straight forward. Mark out where to cut. Drill out all spot welds. Fit in new metal and work your way around replacing welds. I use a ballpeen hammer to 'hammer-weld' the molten mig weld puddle while glowing red. Also, as you work your way around, you can use your ballpeen to work the metal down in the corners as needed which is where most of the challange of fit up occurs.

I replaced the floor behind my front seat in my 67 convertible. I also replaced a butchered transmission tunnel for my four speed. I replaced the full floors(and about everything else in my 57 belair). Check my web site for pictures.
