In my frequent trips to my local Chevy parts man, I discover that part numbers get changed as well as get discontinued.

I needed pedal pads (68-77) for the brake and clutch pedals for Zac's 68. The number in the book is no good any more and has changed to15706041. The pad fits just fine, BUT, the ridges on the pads are a little different from original pads. If you replace both brake and clutch pads, it won't be noticeable. This is for the PLAIN brake pad (manual tranny car), the DISC BRAKE pad is still a good number.

The plastic bushings for the brake and clutch pedal shaft (at the top) have had several changes. The latest number is 15594358. They used to be white, now the bushings are black. Otherwise, they are the same. The IMPORTANT thing is that the bushings are STILL available!

For the 68-72 cars with a manual tranny, the push rod that goes between the Z-bar and throwout bearing fork has just recently been discontinued. BUUUUUUUUUUUUUT, a few dealers around the country still show them in their inventory (many dealer part depts are on line nationally). If you need one NOW, hop on down to your Chevy parts dept and have your friendly (well, whatever) parts man (er, person) get on line and check around the country to see has one and have him order it for you. Parts like this, when they are gone, they're gone! I just got 2 out of ILL. The part number for that rod is 9779202.

Oh ya, the rubber boot that goes in the hole in the bell housing for the throwout bearing is still available, 14007355.

Thirty years ago I NEVER gave a second thought to buying parts for 10-30yr old cars. But now, if a part is still available for a 60s-70s Chevelle, I BUY IT!!! And maybe get a couple of spares.

Anyone here have the Y-shaped spring retainer on the bearing end of the throwout bearing fork break? That retainer is attached with a single rivet-----------------and is now discontinued! I needed one for Zac's 68. My Chevy parts man found 9 in Hinton, Okla. I had him get them all. I have now repaired 2 throwout bearing forks!!!!

These old parts are becoming discontinued every day!

Tom,

Thanks for the update- I've been down that road before! It DOES pay to become friends with some parts person somewhere-they can save you lots of grief. I've found it is also VERY helpful to at least know the last part number you knew. At least then they can look for the update.

When I first got my '69 back in '85, I started gathering parts right away and often I would order two or three of whatever I was getting. Wish I had gotten more back then........even the sheet metal stuff! You're right, this stuff is disappearing more and more every day and much of it may never be repro'd! What's the value, if it's no longer available?

Does anyone have a part number for the pivot ball that attaches to the block? I have a 69 that I am in the process of converting over to a 4 speed and need to order one from the dealer if possible. Also does anyone know of the number for the rubber boot that attached at the firewall for the clutch pedal down rod?

Thanks in advance!!

DZ do you have any similar PN info for 64-66 Chevelles? I am accumulating parts for a 4 speed conversion (have z bar and pedals) and would like to get the oem parts if available, also for a 11" clutch bellhousing setup (have the iron nose starter bellhousing still to be purchased). Thanks Patrick

The part number for the ball stud that screws into the block is 3866568 for 62-later. Just bought one the other day for Zac's 68.

Pat,
What other parts do you need?
The rod between the Z-bar and fork are different for 66 as well as the rod between the clutch pedal and Z-bar.
The 3 bell housing casting numbers for you to look for are 3899621 (most common), 3872444 (66-7 rather rare and HIGHLY desireable by the BB Vette guys), and the 464697 which is the later version and sometimes sold as a replacement. ALL 3 of the above housings are almost identical. ONLY a very few people can point out the TINY differences between the 3, aside from the casting numbers. If you are lucky, you can sometimes pick up a decent, greasy one at a swap meet for $25-35. The $50-75 range is more common and the scalpers are asking $150-250 (especially for a 444). Hit the swap meets early on the first day and look for one at a decent price--------------then negotiate! http://www.chevelles.com/forums/images/icons/icon10.gif

Good info Tom.
Do you happen to have the part number for the Y shaped spring on the fork ?
Busted one on a new fork and saved the fork.

Nate,
It is 12337938. If you can't locate one, let me know. If you have a good parts guy who will work with you, he can probably find one on his computer parts locator. Even though it is discontinued, there are still a few out there in dealer inventories.
