: How the hell is this car up to 45K on ebay???

maybe I am just missing something, but I cant believe this car is up to $45000. Its a claimed LS6 with NO documentation and it doesnt have the original tranny. I realize the numbers match for the engine to the vin, but is that enough to actually claim that it is a SS seeing as its equipped with what appears to be a LS6 engine?
Also, I may be wrong because I havent been reading these tags all that long, but the tag looks fishy to me. Shouldnt the build date be 05B not 5B? also, what plant is BL? shouldnt it be B? shouldnt it say ST70 not 70?
Is this a canadian tag possibly? (I havent seen one yet)
Thanks for any insite any of you can offer
mr70 Apr 5th, 05, 11:08 AM It shows Reserve not met,so that doesn't mean it will sell for that, even if the auction ended now.
It's not a Canadian cowl tag.BL stands for the Van Nuys Calif. Assembly Plant, which they did produce Chevelles. He should release the VIN# to verify that Cowl plant and sequence#.
Why did they paint Black stripes on a Code #28 Chevelle, the Factory didn't.
mr 4 speed Apr 5th, 05, 11:15 AM vague description for a possibly questionable car..
TripleWhiteSS454 Apr 5th, 05, 11:20 AM I saw this car over a year ago on Collector Car Trader Online for, I believe, $65K. It appeared to have sold because the ad disappeared after a couple months. Or perhaps not, who knows?
I remember the ad being vague, but that the seller swore it was a true LS6 -- just without documentation. Interesting observations on the cowl tag, but the "ST" may be there -- just outside the picture.
Mr70, dark blue cars had only white stripes from the factory? I learn something new here every day ...

There are two 1970 Baltimore trim tags on ChevelleStuff.com that look similar to the one in the auction...
Some paint colors were considered too dark or light to receive both black or white stripes.
I think this car is a perfect example why.
70Z15 Apr 5th, 05, 4:30 PM The emission sticker shows that it is a 454-450 HP, so it must be an LS6 :)
bluechevelless Apr 5th, 05, 5:51 PM I think that stickers been replaced, it looks too good.
Where is the emissions sticker at anyway?
Also I didnt think that the factory painted the littlest circles on the dash, the ones for like the turn signals.

YES SIR!!! And I got this bridge in Brooklyn I'd sure like to sell ya!
saturnstyl Apr 5th, 05, 7:14 PM Its a very nice looking car. I bet there is no way anyone could duplicate it for 45K, let alone labor. Looks like an easy way to get a nice chevelle to me.
Alwhite00 Apr 5th, 05, 8:30 PM I wonder why he changed the interior color?

Just A FYI but you can get black stripes on a fanthom blue chevelle.A good friend of mine (second owner)has a 70 396 this way and his build sheet shows this. Now for this car there is much questions to be answered as to the originality...

That's interesting. I still agree that you could not get black stripes with Fathom blue. Was the car special ordered possibly? Anyway to post the build sheet?
caru68 Apr 6th, 05, 9:13 AM You guys are tough. That is a really nice car, and IF it can be authenticated somehow, you can bet it will go for well north of $45K. The only problem I would have with spending this kind of money on this car would be the fact that in order to make it as correct as possible, you'd have to change the whole interior and possibly a few other things. I guess if you have that type of disposable income, replacing the interior is no big deal.

Thats correct, the reproduction dash available does though

I will give him a call and see if he can send me a copy.He lives in NY.I remember seeing a forest green/black stripes car at the Turkey Rod Run a while back. The owner stated he wished the car had white stripes but it was ordered that way and he didn't want to deviate from the build sheet.
The various paint & interior combinations had a stripe colour assigned to them, but you could order the reciprocal stripe colour by specifying RPO ZR8 - Alternate Stripe Color. Obviously if the car was black you couldn't get black striping, or if the car was white...
I remember a '70 Super Bee in my home town as a new car. It was dark green, and if you got up really close you could see that it had black 'C' stripes along the side (it had wheel covers as well, how snoozy!). There was also a black '70 Mach 1 with flat black striping (normally white striping on black or dark green cars). I have 1 picture from 79/80 of that Mach 1. It had original paint as it was winter stored since new. It had a 428, but the owner added big 4-into-1 sidepipes and Cragar SS wheels, not my cup of tea.
