Is the section between the upper tail trim and trunk weather strip painted black for Malibu's. I was at a Chevelle show this weekend and many of the '67 SS owners said they where not. But then again a few of them said the SS was not either.

What is the true? If they should be painted black, where does the paint go between the black and body color around the wheather stripping? Does it vary between assembly plants?

The SS's all got Blacked out in the rear tail panel. The Malibu's were Body Color.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the Malibu's didn't have any black paint back there. An SS had the rear panel semi black and up to the trunk weather stripping balck to. It angles off at the corners following the seam that the rear panel welds into the quarters.
If you didn't have it black back there, when you viewed the car from the rear you would have a strip of body color between the trunk trim and the upper panel trim piece that wouldn't look good.

66 MYSTERY CHEVELLE - In the picture you provided on the link, it looks like it is black between the upper panel trim and the decklid trim. If it was body color, it would look like a blue stripe between the chrome pieces. I was told it was painted black to match the black on the lower panel trim. Any comments.

Sorry Jamie, I guess I misunderstood your question? Thought you wanted to know if the REAR TAIL PANEL ( the entire area) got blacked out on Malibus? that answer is what I gave..ie., malibus, as seen in the factory photo I posted, do not get that entire tail panel blacked out, that area remains Body Color, but Super Sports do get the tail panel blacked out and the level it gets extended to, comes in two versions as depicted in the orig. literature...but alas, that is another subject for another time http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

Sorry for the confusion. carry on.
