I just purchased a set of Goodmark steel inner fenders for my 69 Chevelle. What’s involved in changing these. My existing inner fenders are plastic.

Thanks,
Bubba

I found a good set at the junkyard 2 years ago or so, blasted them and painted them and actually just go them on last night and they seemed to be a bolt in deal

You might want to get all new "u-nuts" to slip over the edges so that the bolts go in easily. My experience with inner fenders is that they are pretty unpredictable. I can remove one from my car and have a terrible time re-installing it or I can get a used one and put it right in easily. My advice is to not to tighten any of the screws until they are all in place and be patient. It may take a lot of wiggling to get them to line up.

I went from plastic to metal. No issues. The only thing is that if your car is factory air, you need to drill the holes to mount the heater control valve on the pass side. Other than that its a snap. I did have mine on a lift, with the front wheels off, battery out. They just kind of 'roll' in and like "J" says, start all the bolts before tightening.

Thanks for the replys.

A couple more questions. I'm planning to apply the finish coat of semi-gloss black.

Should I apply the finish before or after installation? Should I use paint or something like POR 15?

Thanks,
Bubba

I'd paint 'em before installing. Much easier. Also install the dust flaps before installing the i.f.'s.

Make sure that the bolts around the wheel opening are the right length. Too long and they will go through and dent the fender from the inside out.
