I am restoring a 1968 chevelle and have run into a problem. The trunk gutter at the top of the trunk is gone. It looks like someone has cut it off for unknown reasons. Ive been online looking for a repair panel and there appears to be no such thing. Has anyone ran into this and what should I do. Ive thought of fabricating one, but cant figure out a fix at this point. I am refering to the lip that holds the weatherstrip in place.

I believe the is a filler panel that is 68-72 correct (between the rear glass and top of trunk opening).

Our sponsor, Ground Up has the part.

Here is a pic from Goodmark, that our sponsor probably buys it from.

Yep i put one on a 70, piece between rear window and trunk, the lip you refer to is part of it. OPG sells em, look for Trunk steel panel.

The upper gutter wasn't part of my replacement panel. It is actually part of the (or at least welded to) the rear speaker deck, and that panel pictured is spot welded on top of it. I also couldn't find one reproduced. had to hit the wrecking yards.

Thanks everyone. I bought that piece already and there was no lip on it like I needed. I went and looked at the ones shown and the lip is not on those either. This lip is actually attached to the speaker shelf like what was mentioned. Someone took the liberty of cutting that piece off, so I guess I need to go looking in the junkyards. Anyone got that piece they want to sell then email me please..I just need the lip. The rear speaker shelf is there I just need the samll lip. thanks

Jerry, I too have a 68 with a swiss cheese looking gutter rail. Luckily for us, Goodmark is in the process of tooling a complete gutter set for 68's at a good price of about $80. They are supposed to be available mid Fall. graemlins/beers.gif

Here's what I did on my first rusty car that had swiss cheese for a lip. I used the trunk filler panel. Then I bought some steel repair panels from Eastwood. The floor support panel was cut in half and then bent for the contour of the trunk opening.
They also carry a flex edge panel. I put it in a brake to bend the outer edge. Weld it all together and it looked pretty darned good. I just used the rest of the trunk's lip as a guide for building the rusted part.
Or, if you get really lucky, you could find a donor car in a junkyard.
