: Installing a new headliner on a '71

Did a search and didn't find what I was looking for.

My Chevelle currently has no headliner. I've never installed a headliner before and I have a brand new one I want to install myself.

The Chevelle still does have the long metal rods in the roof (I think they're called the bows???)

Anyhow I assume these "bows" slide into the headliner to hold it in place?

But...then I see there is a metal strip that runs atop of the windows that screws into the car's metal. It looks like the old headliner wraped around this and was glued on??? Is this so?

Any 1st time tips would be greatly appreciated.

Do a search on "headliner" in this forum. Somewhere there exists a pretty good tutorial on it.

The metal strips you're describing are exacatly what you think. There's also trim pieces that fit over them; and I believe the sail panels use them in the back.

To be honest, I've got a '68, and I'm just waiting on some warm weather and a little time to install my own. I believe it's like most things; if you take your time, and lay out a plan you can do it yourself. For me, the small cost of the headliner itself, vs headliner & install is the impetus to try it myself.

Good luck.
