Finally got the nerve to crawl under my '67 ragtop and have a look around. As I feared, the frame is rusted (so is every other piece of metal); should I try to fix it, or should I locate another frame to build up? I figure the body has to come off either way, but which method will be better, safer, least expensive, etc.? Thanks.

BUMMER Dude.
That a tough call. It would depend on the total dammage. You can weld and fix frames if you have doner peices to weld in.
thay don't seem to rust in nice flat easy to fix areas ARGHHH. The hard part trying to find a 67 conv frame. The 67
frame is an animal all to it's self.
you can use and 67El Camino frane just need to shorten the tail area a few inches. BTDT
I know some guy near Springfeid who might have a frame or be of some help ?

Rt66,
Sorry to read about your frame...I have just finished replacing the frame on my 67 Elky. Mine was rusted thru just below the firewall area and I was told to do a proper weld repair would require body removal anyhow. I bought it from Sundell's Auto Specialties in NC...(704)434-6759...they also have a location in Western PA....and they will ship. These people are GREAT...specialize in early GM muscle cars.
Good luck,
Bill

Sorry about the frame ,i did a work on mine also, had to weld sections in it that were missing in the steering area and under the front fender body mount, most of the body mount holes rusted through also. You be better off replacing yours, unless you have a Mig welder, and a lot of patience

I to have only good things to say about Sundell,s, they would be the first one i call if i needed anything.

Well, I always wanted to do a body-off build-up; guess I'm getting my wish. It sounds like I should start looking for a frame. I'm in no hurry, my wallet has taken quite a beating, lately. Thanks for the input.

plan on getting a frame, when it comes to convertible frames what you see is usually the tip of the iceberg. When I did the frame off on my 66 conv I saw just how bad things can get! I also recommend Sundells if you cant find one at a swap meet, I picked mine up from them for the 66.
