Not sure on trunk pan replacement should you butt weld pieces together and grind down or lap weld I ordered a 3 pieces but not sure I will have to use all of it.

If you glue them they won't rust or wharp theres a little information on a trunk pan on this site, I just glued the trunk supports and the pans will be glued in tomorrow

The panels (2 piece) I ordered where stamped so that one side nicely lapped with the other. If it where me, I'd crimp them so that you can lap weld them.

(I've got a few pics of my trunk replacement in my signature)

If you want a "show quality look" with no noticable seams top or bottom, butt weld it then grind the welds and finish same as body work. Use a fiberglass filler as your first coat to "seal" the pinholes in your welds. If your not worried about how it looks on the under side, crimp and lap weld or glue the pan. I know a lot of glues are quite strong and there's been a lot of conversation pro and con about glues but I would weld the supports in if I was glueing the pans in. Most glues state they are not for support structures.

Iquik7D.....noticed on your trunk replacement pictures you removed the 3 braces at the back tailpiece inside the truck area. The center one is the lock latch support and it looks like you cut it lose at the bottom and bent it up out of the way. Did you do the same for the 2 outside braces except in the pictures it looks like they are not re-installed..yet?

I have a '66 and I just found out there is more rust higher up on the trunk floor panel where it goes up against the bottom of these 3 braces. I had originally planned on only replacing the flat inner trunk floor leaving all the original edges. Now I have to go up under these 3 rear braces with the 3-piece trunk floor replacements that I had planned to trim down to just go on the floor. Fortunately they came with enough material to replace all the way up the rear.

So how did you get these braces out, cut the bottom loose and bend them up enough to clear the pan replacement, then bend them back down and re-weld or were they spot welded to the floor and you just drilled them out?

Thanks for the heads up, it will save me time and avoid a mistake like I am sure glad I did not trim those replacement panels down already whew!

1quik70D I figured it out and cut my brace loose tonight. Looking at your pictures again I can see they are different than my '66. Sorry to have bothered you with this. I only hope my trunk looks as good as yours when I am done.

Yep, 66's are a little different but you shouldnt have any problems. Good luck!
