had to slide over to the chevelle site for some expert cam recommendation.
Here is what I am working with:
1972 nova, 3300lb with driver, 28" tire, 4.10 gear, leafs with ssm bars, race prepped th350
motown block, 4.155 bore
flat top je's -5cc valve reliefs
eagle 6" h-beams, 4" stroke crank (434 ci)
.039 quench
out of the box afr 220's, 76cc (10.9:1 per calculator)
850 mighty demon, strip dominator, msd spark

the car will be very limited street (local shows) and mostly strip. I don't intend to spin it past 6500 rpm and have decided on a roller, not decided between hydraulic vs solid. I will obviously be looking for something on a small base, and is in part, one of my questions. The shop I bought the parts from said they use cams with a base of .850, but I am worried about the strength of the shaft. The info sheet with the block states that with stroker combos they suggest a .875 base. In need some help from the site resident cam guru and all others of course. I am really hoping to get this car into the high tens once the car is dialed and more probable low 11's until then. I am running manual discs, so vacuum for stopping is not a concern. Looking forward to cam recommendations and help on the base circle issue, thank you in advance.

NorthernNova,

As far as the base circle, .875" is just fine. We only use the .850" for 454 SBC 4.125" cranks, and aluminum rod combos.
A cam that will easily reach your goals is the Lunati 501D1LUN, 302/310 at .020, 271/279 at .050, .640"/.640" gross lift, and 106° LSA. It should put you in the LOW 10s. You can run 1.6s, for .683" gross lift, and you need a good high-volume(220+gph) fuel pump with 1/2" #8 fuel line from tank to carb. Converter should be in the 4000-4500 stall range.
This cam, in a Pontiac Fiero engine, ran over 8 hrs, 15 mins, in a 8500-rpm max 5-speed sports car......
This cam is the most popular roller I make for the heavier cars on the strip.
