I'm new to this sit and find it very awesome. You guys really know your stuff! I'm in the begining stages of restoring a 73 Chevelle SS 454 car. I would like to know as much as I could from the cowl tag and VIN number. I have had thia car since high school some 20 plus years ago. This will be my first frame off total restoration project. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thank You In advance.

The cowl tag reads:

ST 73 1AD37 Z 186048 BDY
TR 704 A52 64B PNT
03A 186048 330469

The VIN is 1D80Y3Z417745
Production date 3-73

There is not a lot of info out there on post-72 Chevelles. What I come up with on your car is that it indeed is a factory 454 (LS4) car. It was silver with a Neutral (off white) bench seat (I'm guessing on that; A52 is bench, plus Autocolorlibrary.com (http://www.autocolorlibrary.com/cgi-bin/search/search.pl) shows the 704 trim as being white with black trim, according to the paint chart. I can't decode this from the firewall plate, but the axle ratio could either be 2.73 (standard) or 3.42 (RPO YD1 Trailering Ratio). Good luck on the project! Send me a PM if you want me to check what pertinent 1973 stuff I have laying around.
