Does a four speed trans crossmember exchange with other tranys or are they for four speeds only. Looking for another crossmember for my 66 SS 4 speed.

Thanks

There are only two crossmembers for 66... One for boxed frames (converts and El Caminos), and one for non-boxed frames... The are the same regardless of transmission choice...

think so, just put one in my 66 a 4 sp from a 65. The th 400 from 67 might be different.

The TH400 crossmember was no different from the others; it was simply mounted on a rearward set of mounting holes.

My assembly manual list 3838040 for all 66 chevelles except convert, & pick-up del which have the boxed frames thus a different support member. Some of my confussion come from a crossmember that was in the 66 I bought. It had been pounded out so as not to interfeer with the exhaust and also the shifter linkage. It also did not have the open slotted holes on the drivers side and the hole for the pk brake bracket was in the wrong place and it had to be shimmed to get the right output shaft drive shaft angle. Don't know how anyone could have put that in. Had vibriation problems until I changed it.

My parts book says 6272136 should work for all 64-67 chevelles and a number of different chevelles from 68-72. It also say that 3870182 would work for all 8 cylinders from 65-67. Think any 64-67 crossmember will work except those for the conv or del with to boxed frams.
I got a used one for $40.
