: So, you think restoring your Chevelle is too hard, think you don't have the talent?
MARTINSR Apr 23rd, 04, 9:50 AM Click on the link below and you will find the ultimate home hobbiest with the ultimate DRIVE to learn. Granted this guy was no green horn when he started this project. But he had zero to little body fabrication skills. He bought every video on the subject, took every class he could find, and he built this aluminum body from SCRATCH. The site has some very interesting reading, if nothing else it is a motivater. smile.gif Hand made Daytona Coupe (http://members.aol.com/COUPECHUCK/index.htm)
BBElky Apr 23rd, 04, 10:30 AM Unbelivable!!!! He may not have had previous body/fab experience but he's got a whole bunch of natural talent.....some people spend entire careers trying to learn a fraction of what this guy is doing!
d1_bradley Apr 23rd, 04, 11:23 AM What really caught my attention was the fact that he doesn't plan on painting it. What a nice job of fabrication.
dreinecke Apr 23rd, 04, 11:24 AM Brian,
I've followed this guy's progress for a while. I'm a HUGE fan of these cars and have many minatures of these. I've also been to the Shelby museum in Boulder and seen the real #13 car.
I have kicked around the idea of someday getting a Factory Five car, because quite frankly, I don't have the time that this guy has into his car. I will hand it to him though - serious brass ones for tackling this project.
That car defines true craftsmanship to me.
USFATL Apr 23rd, 04, 11:36 AM This guy is INSANE :D
I can only imagine the amount of dedication and single mindedness needed to produce something of that magnatude by ones self. A truly outsanding accomplishment.
Regards,
1966_L78 Apr 23rd, 04, 12:18 PM Wow...
I can only dream of doing what he has done...
feedphillipnow Apr 23rd, 04, 12:22 PM Niiice. :D I wish I had an english wheel in my garage, I use to wish for my MIG and now Ive got it! It's all about time, either we have the money or we have the time... never the 2 at once  Things still get done though for us norms smile.gif
Professor_SS Apr 23rd, 04, 1:18 PM Holly Crap  I am not worthy... I am not worthy...
that is fantastic
baddbob71 Apr 23rd, 04, 3:07 PM WOW! that's some really nice work. Many many hours.
kmchugh Apr 23rd, 04, 4:13 PM Unbelievable! I wish I had 1/10 of that guy's talent.
MARTINSR Apr 23rd, 04, 8:43 PM The sick thing is I have a small english wheel, a couple of pneumatic planishing hammers, a leather shot bag with a full set of mallets, shrinker strecher, brake, pexco bead roller and many other smaller tools. I bought them with high hope to get into panel fab. I made a few basic parts with them and that is about it.
Ok, here is my dream. If I can get my projects that are in the works done, or sell them, I want to make a car from scratch. I don't plan on making something this complex but something like a Lotus Seven. I really want to design and build the car with by little boy. That would be a kick.
Something along these lines.

baddbob71 Apr 27th, 04, 12:24 AM MartinSR Go for it, you'll be building more than just a car with your son. Many memories and a great example of what an accomplishment a project like this could bring.
MARTINSR Apr 27th, 04, 12:55 AM Yeah Bob, I don't spend much time out in the garage because we are usually out doing something I think is more valuable to the family. But I have to agree with you. Every time I get out in the garage my boy (7) and girl (3) are playing in the yard and they end up in there (when it is safe of course) and they always have a good time. I show them as much as I can and they always get a kick out of it.
Last year at the San Francisco international autoshow I saw this Super Seven copy I have always liked the Super Seven but this one knocked me down.

So my plan is to build something along these lines. I have started talking to my boy about it and he is jazzed. He wants to finish my truck first, at least he has some direction, his dad doesn't smile.gif
Yeah Bob, that would be some good times. smile.gif
Jblack Apr 27th, 04, 7:36 AM I have this one over in Bench Racing... I couldn't find this trhead when I posted it!
Anyway this is a all hand built car of an engineer/friend I work with. Other than the engine everthing else is hand made. Body panels are hand made molds. The wheel centers are carved out of billet, etc etc

MARTINSR Apr 27th, 04, 9:43 AM Very cool, I thought that was a Cosworth Vega engine. I remember riding my bike to the Chevy dealer so I could look at a Cosworth in the show room, it was very exciting to see such an exotic motor.
I have to wonder what you can get for a car like that. I suspect not much, that is the sad part. If he got paid mininum wage for all the work it would be fifty thousand dollars, but the market just won't bare it. I suspect he is not getting any offers anywhere near what he thought he would.
You have to make something like that to enjoy and of course "The journey is the destination". Building it is the real fun.
Jblack Apr 27th, 04, 10:20 AM Brian,
That's just it. There really isn't a market for a car like this. We're going to run it on Ebay to see what happens. Like you said, it was built with the challenge of "building your own car". This project took him 20years to put together. He knows he'll never get what he has into it. He needs to find some eccentric millionaire looking for a niche' car...LOL. So if you know any, let me know :D
