How do you remove the lock for painting.

Had trouble with mine also,I think you push the inner latch all the way down and turn the key.The two pieces seperate.Could only get mine halfway apart(was installing a new lock) ended up taken it to a locksmith!!.Cost $20 but I would have destroyed the door with a BIG hammer. Mike
