Hey all i have talked to Clint and read all the posts, is there a definite yes or no on putting 15x10's with a 5.5 backspace on a 67 Chevelle? I will fit the tire later probably a 28" or so. Ralph

I've got 15 x 10 cargar's on my 68. With 295-50-15's. It's a risk. I had to do 3 things to make the car driveable.

1. When I installed new quarters, we pulled out the wheel well about 2 inches, this made the tire sidewall totally flush with the wheel flair. Before they stuck out 2 inches.(ya might not have to do this)

2.Air shocks

3. Rear lift springs, bought 'em from JC whitney.

without doing these 3 steps, there is no way you can get 'em in there, in a 68 at least, but damn they look awesome, it is 110% worth it . It is the only way to go.

On a '67 with a '67 rear, 15x10's with 5.5" BS is a definite 100% NO

The wheels will hit the shock mount with that much backspace. I've learned the hard way, anyone that tells you otherwise has a later rear under their car.

Your wheels have inadequate backspacing. 15x10's with 5.5" backspacing will easily fit a 68-72.

Ralph, were we talking about 15x10's or 17x10's? I thought it was the latter.

I know somebody with 15x10's with 315 drag radials on the back, they don't hit.

Ralph,I wish I could tell you 100% a pair of 17x10's would fit but I just do not know if they will or not. However, one of my co-worker friends has a 67 SS Chevelle and we installed a pair of TT II 17x9.5's with 5.5" backspacing and 275/50/17 Nittos. The car's in storage right now or I would get you a few photos.

Clint, there must be something wrong with my car then, because there is so much backspace the tire is about 1/2" from the shock mount.

17x10 should work. i have 18x10 on my 67 with 295/45 18's, biggest that will fit. i have the later rear axle from 68-, with 6" backspacing. pics on homepage.

So you uys figure 17x10 with 5.5 backspace? I have the 67 rear axle. I don't want to buy wheels and have to eat or return them my pockets aren't that deep. What about settling for 15x8 with a big tire how do they look? This is giving me fits i'm still having trouble decieding on which of about 3 or 4 wheels! Ralph

never have cared for the "ass in the air" look. never gonna get 315's to fit within the wheel wells. 295's are as big as you can go unless you jack it up to the sky.

Does your 68 still have the stock rear end? If so,there should not be any way a 295/50 is going to hang out of the fenderwell two inches with a 15x10 rim that has 5.5" backspacing.

Why is that?

Just a little sarcasm.I just knew what this guy had on his car so I threw it out there, maybe it would help.I realize the drop down look is in and actually better for handling but I kinda like the way the car sits, like I said,it's not for everyone.

I had 17x10's on the back of my 67, and they were perfect. But I agree that 15x10's will not fit. To close to the shock mount.

Was the backspace 5.5" 67LS1? I don't mind the 17" 's, do they hook as well as 15" 's? Ralph

I don't know if your looking for the lowered look, but I just tires and rims on my '67 with the correct rear end. I used 15x7 with 4.25 backspacing, with a 275/60 tire it sits pretty good its a 28 inch or so tall tire so it sits a little high but I am going to lower it pretty soon, it looks great with those tires and lowered. Just my two cents. Good luck
