I had a question for all you automotive finishing experts out there. I am considering painting my 70 with PPG brand paint. The color is utlra silver metalic which is GM code#96. Can anyone tell me if there is a paint that is closer to chrome or is this ultra silver metalic the closest I'm going to find? Also, is it possible to add metal flake to the paint or somekind of transleusent(sp) enhancer to duplicate a chrome LIKE finish? Thanks...

I have been in the auto body and paint business for 25 years and have never seen anything that gets very close to the look of chrome. There was an aerosol at one time that was pretty remarkable, but I havn't seen it in years. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

thanks for the reply Martinsr. I ask because a long time ago like 6-7 years ago I distinctly remember leaving my friends house very late at around 2:00 a.m. and heading over to the local corner station. Well, to my disbelief, I saw a box style mustang 80's of course trun the corner off the intersection and I kid you not, that mustang was the best looking mustang I have ever seen in my life because of the fact that it was CHROME! It shimmered in the night like no other. The mustang was definetly painted chrome no if's and or but's about it. I was in a pretty ritzy part of town. Maybe the kids parents paid for the paint job cause I'm sure it was a but load of money!
