Ok guys,

So I tore apart my interior and correctly fixed the bucket seat brackets (don't ask) and after welding the brackets to the floor, the car just cranks and cranks and cranks, one helluva time getting it started. It does eventually start and run, but before this it would pop right off.
Now, before you jump to conclusions, I did remove the negative battery cable so I figured I'd be OK.

Could the welding have screwed up (read burned up) the control module in my distributor? It's a mallory unlite electronic dist. If not any other ideas? I am not sure this is the problem, it just seemed quite coincidental....

I don't think the welding has anything to do with your problem. You said you removed your negative battery cable. How old is it and how does it look? Check both ends for any corrosion. If it's more than 15 years old, I'd replace it. I'm assuming your battery and charging system was, and still is, OK.
The welding will only pass current (usually DC) between the ground clamp and the electrode/wire feed gun. Unless you clamped your ground to the coil or the ignition box, you should not have had any problems welding.
Other things to check... any interior wiring you moved to work on seat brackets.
Do you have a center console? Have you checked the Neutral safety switch? Could you have pinched a wire (like dome light) that might be pulling down your battery. If you have access to a voltmeter, check to make sure you have proper voltages at the ignition box, battery, coil etc. Also, check fuses. Check all the dumb, simple, stupid things first... then worry about whether you've damaged a high dollar part later.
Good luck!

Bill,

Thanks, I think I needed a "you didnt do anything wrong" comment to calm me down. As for the battery cables, brand new, as well as the rest of the car, I just finished a complete restoration. But I did pull the console out, thats a good starting place. I'd think the NSS wires were hooked up or it wouldn't start at all.
