What is the correct color for the sheet metal filler panel that goes between the bumper and the grill?

So far I've heard Black and body color. Which is correct????

Satin black is correct on a '68.

Body color on my 68 elco.

I believe all SS models were black (integrates well with black on lower sides), but not certain about the Malibu.

My car was an unmolested 30k mile original one owner and the filler was black. All survivor cars that I have seen have been black as well.
