Do you have a dash harness for the gauges or are you wanting to use the sweep dash harness? It's best to have the gauge dash harness and a new engine harness. 72 needs a 72 dash harness, 70 & 71 are not direct replacements.

If you have $550.00 bucks, dash $400 engine $150, to spend you can get quality direct drop in reproduction harnesses from M&H (http://www.wiringharness.com).

You can modify your sweep dash harness or you can get a used dash harness from e-bay. Converting your sweep harness is more work, e-bay harnesses are most often SS/Monte light dash harnesses and will need to be modified to accommodate the gauge dash. The amp gauge and tach needs wires in the engine harness to operate. You can convert the amp gauge to a volt gauge and eliminate the need for the wiring. The temp gauge will use the existing wiring but you need to install a temp sender in place of the temp switch.

If you go with an e-bay harness be careful, typically the harnesses are listed as 70 - 72 you need a 72 only. If in doubt you can post the auction # someone here can tell if it's a 72.

I'm mot aware of a wiring diagram that's available on the net. The 72 Chevrolet service manual has wiring diagrams, also has a diagram for a gauge dash.

Post back what you decide to do additional info will be provided.

I'm doing the same exact thing. I went with a 72 SS harness (used) and a new engine harness from Factory Fit. You need to spend the extra $25.00 for a wiring diagram - Ground Up has them as do most of the suppliers, I got mine from e-bay. Also, have you searched on the internet for the subject? I did and got some stuff that was helpful.
