tried a search but could not use 402 or cam....

Engine Combo
402 Block, milled for ~9.0 or 9.5:1 CR
Stock Rods, Crank and Pistons (.100 pop up?)
3933148 Heads with 2.19/1.88 valves ported and cleaned up
Dual Plane Manifold (Weiand Stealth)
Quadrajet

Car Combo
3200 lbs
3.89 Ford 9 inch Rear end
M-21 - possibly Viper 6 speed as $ permits.

Looking for decent street manners, but will trade off for performance.

Is the Lunati 288/296 too much for the little motor?
Would a roller be a good choice - either solid or hydraulic?

The 302A8 would be a little big in a 9.5 402, but probably the 60203 VooDoo 268 would work. It is the next size down from the 288/296, and also on a 110 LSA, which would like your xmsn and rear gears. If it doesn't pull at high RPM, you will need a high-volume mech pump and 1/2" fuel line. You would definitely need those with the 288/296H.

that is what I figured Harold. I have the big carter fuel pump, and will be plumbing the fuel with 1/2". If i can get the CR up would you stay with the 268? What would be the min compression for tthe 302?

Joe,

In the 402, both those cams will like 10:1-10.5:1 CR. The main difference is that the VooDoo has better vacuum and bottom-end, and almost identical top-end. If it was a 10.5:1 RACE-ONLY car, I might just stay with the 302A8, as I am very familar with its' ability above 6500. When we were dyno-testing the VooDoo series, we used a 6200 cut-off on the dyno. However, power was not dropping fast at that speed.....
