: Firewall insulation pad
bob cole Mar 24th, 05, 10:52 PM I have purchased and received the firewall insulation pad. It is perforated for the areas that are to be removed. It came with 7 plastic fasteners. Now, which holes do these fasteners go? And, which pre-cut pieces do I remove, and which ones stay? This is a non-a/c 4 speed SS.
To go further, I have not installed any interior or wiring (except the tail lite harness and front to rear (intermediate) harness.
I believe that my next step is to install this firewall insulation. Any help? Thanks. Bob Cole
66L78 Mar 24th, 05, 11:52 PM Bob I just installed the insulation on my 66 SS and found it relatively painless. Remove the front seats to make this much easier. mine went behind the heater box so I laid it against the firewall and put the heater box back on, take notice of your wiring in that area, mine had none, go to the outside engine compartment, take notice of the holes that are empty which are the correct size of the plugs, these would be the hold ons. On the driver side do the same, take notice of any wiring from the firewall and only punch out these areas, again around to the engine compartment noticing empty holes that match up with the insulation holes and you are done, hope this helps Chuck
bob cole Mar 25th, 05, 1:39 AM Hey Chuck, thanks for your reply. As yet, I don't have any wiring installed in that area. Sorry, I thought that I had mentioned that. You see, my concern is which do I do first....... the wiring, or the insulation pad? I'm trying to avoid the "un-do, and do over again" thing. Know what I mean? .... LOL
EddieC67ss Mar 25th, 05, 9:15 PM I just re-did mine but I used the rubber plugs. Easier than the plastic ones. Also look more original.
MileHiSS Mar 25th, 05, 9:23 PM The wiring can be way down the list from the firewall pad. As mentioned earlier, The heater box will help hold the pad, as well as the left side of the steering column clamp.
66L78 Mar 25th, 05, 11:08 PM Misunderstood you Bob, I would do the pad first, that way when you do the wiring only punch out the cut outs you relly need, this will eliminate making any mistakes and have any extra holes with no wires Good luck Chuck
bob cole Mar 27th, 05, 12:39 PM I did as you suggested, once I had painted the heater box and installed the new gaskets and core. I guess the problem that I was having is that the pad is not an exact cut. Once the heater box was correctly installed thru the correct holes in the pad, I really am gonna have to tug (HARD) to get it correctly positioned under the drivers side. The holes are off by about 1 1/4 inch. Guess this is what had me confused. I really appreciate your information. It did help to figure what the problem was, once the heater box was installed. Thanks
