I bought a chrome 100amp alternator, and I had to rotate the back body around, so that the wire link on the side wasn't hitting my valve cover. anyways, i took it apart, ( i have never done this before) then i put it back on and the fan wasn't spinning very well, so i took it apart, and wouldn't you know it, the springs had wrapped around the shaft, and the brushes were all broke apart. ( I forgot to install these back in) well i took the brushes and springs off my old alternator, and used a tiny metal wire to hold them in, while the shaft goes down into the back casing. Alternator seems to work, I was just wondering if this was going to have any bad effects later on..since this is a BRAND NEW 100amp Powermaster alternator.

New brushes would be better but it should be ok. Sounds like you did the paperclip trick. Done it many times.

A brush kit isn't very expensive. If you're concerned, pick one up and do it again.;)

whenever you have to re-clock an alternator, just take the bolts out and turn the case to where you need it.
don't seperate the housings or you will have what 383 ran into.

Any good auto parts shop has them or can get them. they used to be normal stock item but they may have to order the kit for you. They should be very cheap. For that type of item I'd try a NAPA store.
