I think I've found a good start to building one of my dream cars. A '66 Chevelle. What are some of the problem areas to look for? Frame and body look to be ok in the pictures I've seen, but where do I look when I see it in person. It is a small block 4 speed car with a 12 bolt. Where is a good place to get the VIN decoded?

Thanks for the help.

cool good luck! post the tag info in the tag team forum they can help I'm sure. I think all these cars have the same problem areas, the metal behind all four wheels (lower fenders and quarters) the lower parts of the windshiield and rear window frames, under the battery and the trunks.

Where can I find that same VIN decode for a 70? That is very good info.

The biggest problem with 66's is all the crowds, the waves, the thumbs up and wow's! you get whenever you take it out. People love 66's and it gets so bad that you sometimes have to take it out but dress it to look like a 67.. just to get some breathing room :D :D :waving:

Take a refrigerator type magnet with you, It won't scratch the paint. Check all those ares for excessive bondo with the magnet. Too much bondo it will not stick. Rocker trim are is another place for rust to hide. Good luck with the search, :beers:

I have to agree there. There's really nothing special about my '66 except that it's fairly clean and I even get young kids waving, bobbing their heads and giving me thumbs up every time I take it out. Good luck with it

Don't forget the "I had one just like it except it was a (put a different year in here, any different year)". Yep just like the one your driving. As many times as I've heard this 66 Chevelles should be WAY more plentiful.....
