Got a few cans of this from my soon to be leaving parts manager, Wondering if it can do more harm than good in my old carboned up motor. Also looking for a decent tutorial or some crafty instructions on the stuff, guess it's pretty decent, but i don't want to ruin my motor on the off chance that the caron is what is holding her together. Thanks in advance.

I used this stuff on my original 307 engine that had 125,000+ miles on it. Didn't do any harm to it. I think the motor ran a little smoother. It'll make your car look like John Candy's in Uncle Buck :) . Smoke coming out the exhaust pipes like crazy.

I had a 73 454 that would carbon up and sound like a rod was coming thru the block. Take one can of GM top engine cleaner open the throttle on the carb enough so the engine wont die when you pour aprox half the can in the front two barrels of the carb while keeping it running, then let off the throttle and dump the remaining can in the carb and let engine die.

Let it set for 20-30 mins, start it up and run car down the street in low gear until cleared out, You will make a large smoke cloud until cleared out of the engine. A Cadillac mechanic showed me how to use this 30+ years ago, the stuff works great if you want to clean out the carbon on an engine.

You can do the same thing with-get ready-WATER.

No toxic cloud o' death out the tail pipe, either.

Pour a "urine-stream" of water into the primarys of the carb while on fast idle or perhaps 2000 rpm. I've used an adjustable sprayer on a garden hose, but any convenient pail or bucket would work, AS LONG AS YOU CAN CONTROL THE AMOUNT OF WATER GOING IN THE CARB.

Water will knock the carbon right out of the combustion chambers, leaving them spotless.

Do you have the aerosol or the liquid? Warm the engine up to operating temp and spray into the carb at a fast idle speed, maybe holding the throttle open by hand and not letting the engine die. Use the whole can.

You can use tap water to break up carbon in the engine. Simply heat the engine up to 180* and use a spray bottle. Spray the water into the carb while the engine is running at 1500rpm and the cold water hits the hot carbon and it breaks it up-out the tailpipe.
REMEMBER-adjust the spray nozzle-don't pour water down the carb.

ATF will do the same thing as well.

Watch carefully as too much water/atf will cause "hydro lock", which is not good. Rev engine to roughly 2500 rpm's and slowy pour water down the carb or suck through a vacuum line. Caution with the vacuum line sucking, since it will consum all the water very FAST! I have used top engine cleaner on numerous engines with good results.
