I recently bought a 1973 Malibu that looks like it had a hood ornament broken off. I can't find any pictures of a 73 Malibu that illustrate a hood ornament. Is a hood ornament stock, or just something that the previous owner slapped on? If it is originally supposed to be there, where can I find picture/replacement?

The hood ornament didn't appear on Chevelles until the 1974 Malibu Classic & Landau. That one was a spring-load affair in order to appease the safety agencies. If you want, I could e-mail you a picture of one.

If you can, I would like to see what might have been on the hood. But, if the hood ornament didn't come out until 74, then I don't want to put one on my 73. I never asked the original owner what he had on the hood. Please do send the pic.

I think I may have found the emblem. The front end looks like it is from a 75 malibu. The grill pattern and chrome looks close, but I can't find a good picture. Do you know where I can go to find a good picture of the front of a 75 Malibu. I knew the front of my car didn't match the pictures I had seen of 73's. I like it the way it is, but I'm disappointed to know it's not original.
