Gentlemen,

Can anyone here tell me if there is a specific code either on the cowl or POP which tells you if a particular 67SS came with the common stripes found on those cars??? Thanks

From what I have been able to determine, for the 67 SS396, there was a standard body side stripe and an optional (extra cost) body side stripe. The optional stripe is wider and continues over the wheel openings, where the standard stripe does not. For both types of stripe, the colors were red, black, white, and blue. I believe that the stripe color was not the choice of the customer, but was determined by the color of the car. My 67 SS is Ermine white with bright blue interior, and it has the standard blue stripes. I do not have the P-O-P for my car, and I don't recall seeing a code on the trim tag for the stripes. I do have a copy of an original window sticker from another 67 SS that was Marina blue with black vinyl top and black interior. There is a line on the window sticker that reads: 6Z29BA VINYL STRIPE EQUIP with a price of .00. I have a pocket-sized salesman book from October 1966 that says that the SS includes color-keyed body side stripes. The description for the optional stripes says that they replace the standard stripes. I can scan this info if someone wants to see it.

As CC67 said, the 67 SS came standard with stripes and the RPO D96 stripes included going over the fenderwells was optional. The "extra" stripes do not appear on the firewall data plate I don't believe. It would appear on the build sheet and window sticker/invoice.

I haven't seen anything to confirm or not, but I would suspect that, like the 69 Chevelle, the color of the stripe was dependent on the body/interior color combination.
