i think that the rear right window of my 69 chevelle is leaking water into my trunk. the water is running down the wheel well and flooding my trunk every time it rains or i wash my car. does anyone have any ideas as to weather or not it is infact the window or something else that might be leaking and how to fix the problem?

the late 60s thru 72 velles have a problwm with rust in the rear window channels. Get into your trunk, lay on your back with a light and look up at the underside of the luggage tray and rear window channel. You will, I'm sure, see rust. The water lays in the rear window channel and eventually rusts through. Then the water ends up in your trunk.

Quick "temp" fix might include removing the chrome around the rear window and sealing with a caulking material. The real, long term fix, includes removing the window, repairing the rusted area by cutting out the metal and welding in new metal, or if it is only a small hole, plugging it with a por or simular epoxy material, painting with a rust inhibitor paint, por 15 or cooreless, and then properly re-installing the window and trim.

Cho530,

The Professor has given you some great advice. The only thing I would add to it is if you don’t see any obvious rust have someone lock you in the trunk with a flash light. If this someone is your wife or girlfriend make sure you take something of value to her into the trunk with you. If it’s both of them don’t get into the trunk. Have them run water over the area where the leak is, starting at the bottom of the window and slowly moving up the window. I had a similar leak that turned out to be where the rust was repaired but poorly sealed.

Good luck,
Bubba

LOL Bubba.

cho350: My Monte has the same body as a Chevelle and I had a similar problem. The bottom of the back window frame was rusty and leaked into the trunk. I did the long-term fix of refabricating the back window frame. That cost a few $$$ though since it was about 10 hours worth of body work. The owner before me had done a temperary fix but that did not last long. It's up to you to figure out what to spend on it to fix it. Check out my Body shop photos on my web site for before and after pics of my back window. Good Luck!
