How do you get the new icons inserted INSIDE the text box???

You mean the smiles Tom ?

You can either click on them or type them in.

If you click on the down arrow up next to the smily face at the top and then scroll down and click on "show all smiles" it will open up a new window which you can leave open and choose which ever one you want on other posts also.

To change the icon at the beginning of your post, put a dot in the circle next to one of the icons shown below your post.



PS:
I think you need to be using the "Enhanced Interface - Full WYSIWYG Editing" near the bottom of your "edit options" page but you probably already know that.

No down arrow next to the smily face and I can't find the "edit options" page.
When I click on the icons, it ONLY puts them next to the title box.

Click on "User CP"' at top left, then on edit options, scroll down to "Miscellaneous Options" and in the "Message Editor Interface" box you can change to "Enhanced Interface - Full WYSIWYG Editing"
