I've heard of putting jute or insulation on doors to cut down on road noise, but I'm not sure where it would go. Inside the outer skin? Underneath the door panel? What do you think? Thanks,

Paul

I don't think you'd be able to get door handles on if you put it under door panels.

Put it between the water barrier and the inner trim panel. There are several products that work well for this application including household carpet pad. As long as the insulation thickness doesn't exceed about 3/8ths of an inch, installing window crank handles will not be affected.

Adding the insulation is worth a ton in road noise reduction.

I did just that- 3/8 under door panels, not too bad on doors, but I had a heck of a time getting window cranks on rear quarters.

Pauls,
I used a sound deadener from Mcmaster-Carr. Looks and does the same thing as Dynamat. Its about 3/16th thick with a sticky side. Just cut it to fit the inside of the door, cut your holes out and stick it on. Put your watershields on over it , then your door panel. Everything ,(door handles etc. ) fits back on easily. Its great stuff to work with and makes things very quiet. The doors on my 69 shut with a thud. Very solid. Hope this helps.

Pauls!
Almost forgot. Before I did this, I took a brush and por-15 to the insides of the outer door skins. Wear ruber gloves for this. I brushed the por on, let it dry then sprayed the entire inside of the door skin with undercoating. Is kind of a ***** getting the por brushed on everywehre but it can be done. Also did this same process to the quarter area, floor , and roof. It may be overkill but u can hear a pin drop in there. Good luck!!!
