Hi...I own a black 1972 chevelle "driver" that has a 3 year old or so $800 MAYCO paint job that the previous owner had just put on the car before I bought it,,,and for a production type shop it looks real good. I do have some minor paint cracks at some of the typical spots we see these older cars get them over time. The question I have is,,when the paint is cracked (very fine lines) what shows thru is a bright pure white color?? The car was org. gold and before the black paint went on it was an ugly pale yellow. Can anyone tell me what this white material under the black paint would be?? Thanks in advance for any input!
PS-I treat these areas at this time by using an auto touch up black paint and fine brush,,,some day when I have the $$ I will strip the car down and do some body work and repaint, but this seems ok for now.

It could be nothing more than wax residue...assuming you wax the car. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif Worst case is that it's the sealer showing through. Most of the Maaco's et al spray a whiteish or gray sealer prior to the color to help compensate for the lack of good sand/prep work.

Start saving your money, the cracks are doomed to get larger and spread to larger areas. The extremes of Texas weather speeds the process.

"ugly pale yellow" I believe Butternut Yellow is what you were refering to here http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif I like it ,It makes the car look like a sleeper with a vinyl top.
