View Full Version : 4 door copo? look BudW Mar 18th, 05, 7:01 PM http://adcache.collectorcartraderonline.com/10/0/4/74257704.htm Chevy454 Mar 18th, 05, 8:23 PM Hmmm...wonder what makes it a COPO? Maybe it's an old Police car or something, a lot of those were COPO cars... Cam Mar 18th, 05, 11:19 PM I doubt that thing was produced under a COPO, V8s were mainstream Chevy II stuff since '64 models. Chevy454 Mar 19th, 05, 9:02 AM They could've went through the Central Office to get about anything done, as it wasn't exclusive to powertrain options...heavy duty brakes, or heavy duty vinyl interior, non-typical paint scheme, etc....all that stuff could be done as a COPO, and was common to mundane cars such as Police cars, taxi cabs, fleet order trucks, etc... irongolf Mar 19th, 05, 10:42 AM OK your right, but why does this guy think guy think his car is COPO Bill Pritchard Mar 19th, 05, 5:12 PM OK your right, but why does this guy think guy think his car is COPO It got our attention, right??? 67Sleeper Mar 19th, 05, 5:58 PM Hmmm, I'd be a little suspisous too. COPO for 5 grand right off the top makes me a little leary. Plus a 283 at that. Ok, made me look, but that's as I'll on this one. elcamino Mar 20th, 05, 8:47 AM Everyone associates COPO with being a peformance car BUT the COPO process was there to satisfy large fleet customers like the taxi companys, gov't agency's, the military and other big customers who wanted non-standard vehicles with special items. It was not until the late 60's that several big Chevy dealers involved in racing got frustrated with GM managements position that intermediate cars (Chevelle and Camaro) were prohibited from getting any engine over 400 cid. Those engines were reserved for the Corvette and big passenger cars. So the dealers and Chev made it happen thru the COPO process. As long as it was not a RPO, COPO could get it engineered and made BUT rarely on a "one-of" basis, they required mulitple units ordered. I recall when I was in the US Army in 1966-68 we had all kinds of Chevy cars, all painted in OD (Olive Drab). They had different interiors than the regular Chevys, more HD vinyl it would seem. I recall when they got hundreds of 1967 Biscaynes at the motor pool, every one was indentical. I was hopeing they would replace my 65 Biscayne but never did. |
