: 70 Cowl induction problem
ToocoolZ28 Mar 18th, 05, 4:39 PM How do you keep the vacuum hose from being pinched when you close the hood? I've tried 3 different type of hoses and they all pinch closed when I close the hood. The cowl seal is Metro brand, about 2 years old and feels very soft, the hood is not too low in the back, even with the fenders.
It sure would be nice to watch this thing work like it should.

mr 4 speed Mar 18th, 05, 8:41 PM Ron,try re-routing the hose thru one of the holes in the firewall that run into the cowl vent area
Walker Mar 18th, 05, 10:06 PM There is a V notch on the back of the hood (in the center but more towards the passenger side) that the hose fits through. On either side of this notch is a hole. I think there is a retainer piece that utilizes these holes to keep the hose in this notch. I just used a quick tie. This keeps the hose in the notch and the notch lets the hose pass the weather strip with out being pinched.
DZAUTO Mar 19th, 05, 1:28 AM Ron,
Josh is 100% on the money. The hood has the notch he mentioned and ORIGINALLY, there was a plastic strap that went across this notch. The strap has a push in tab on each end of it. If you will go and look at this notch in the underside of the hood, you will see a hole on each side of the notch. These holes are where the tabs push into. This was the factory method of retaining the hose so that is doesn't get pinched. If you will retain your hose in the same way, your problem will be solved.
Also, I have seen these straps available from the aftermarket sources.
ToocoolZ28 Mar 19th, 05, 5:27 AM I have the hose in the V-notch with the original style plastic strap. I may try running it through the firewall but I hate to drill a hole in it. Maybe the cowl seal is the problem.
Thanks.

ACES1 Mar 20th, 05, 8:35 AM Had the same problem on another cowl inducted car, Ron, even with the hose in the notch. What I did was cut the hose at the point of restriction, inserted a small length of metal tubing, and rejoined the two halves. Virtually undetectable, and kept the hose from collapsing when the hood was closed.
ToocoolZ28 Mar 20th, 05, 9:52 AM Good idea Chuck, I'll do it.
Thanks.

mfinger1 Mar 21st, 05, 8:12 AM Chuck;
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but originally, wasn't there a metal sleeve/tube that was somewhere in the middle of the hose. Somewhere between the intake vacume connection and the vacumn diaphram on the cowl flap.
ToocoolZ28 Mar 21st, 05, 8:57 PM Thanks Chuck, it worked like a charm. 3 inches of 1/4" tubing is all it took. Its one of those things where you say "why didnt I think of that".
